The average 2x2 refuses to investigate the history and doctrine of his own church. Why would that be? Well, when you've been taught to believe a certain way for so long, you come to accept it as absolute truth no matter how close or far from reality it might be.

Here's an example:

Suppose every day for 30 years I were to tell you that the box below is blue. For the purpose of this example, let's assume you have no other source of information regarding this box.

Over time, your perception of this box will conform to what I have told you. Since you have no contrary evidence against my stance regarding its "blueness" you will eventually accept my definition of its color to be absolutely true.

At some point in time, you might want to share the bluebox with another person. So you bring them with you to your bi-weekly gathering of fellow blueboxers. This person is almost taken aback by the sheer number of other people who also profess to the blueness of the box. But over time they lose the desire to declare the green reality for fear of upsetting their bluebox friends and family.

Finally, after years and years of blueboxing, everyone is certain of their rightness in declaring that their box is not only blue, but it also is the only right box, with all other boxes being false, regardless of their blue / greenness.

Then one day, all the blueboxers are joined together in blueboxship at the regional blueboxing arena. One of the children calls out, "That box is green!"

And all the blueboxers smile a little nervously as they wait for the child's father to take him out for a good spanking.
